2024 SCHOLARSHIP AWARD PROGRAM


PURPOSE:  
Provide scholarships to students who are the children of active duty, inactive/active-duty reserves or retired military personnel (to grade Captain/Colonel equivalent), resale personnel (NEXCOM, DECA, Coast Guard, AAFES, Marine Corps) or ALA members who reside in the Hampton Roads Area.

AWARD:
Scholarships will be awarded based upon academic achievement, personal qualifications and accomplishments, participation in both school-oriented and outside activities and demonstrated interests without regard to race, creed, color, sex, religion, or national origin

The scholarship will be disbursed in a single payment to the institution of higher learning that the recipient attends. Winning applicant will be awarded scholarship check at a special reception in June 2024. ATTENDANCE AT THE RECEPTION IS MANDATORY. By attending the HR ALA Scholarship reception, the scholarship recipient gives constitutes consent to be photographed for use in print and/or electronic publicity for the Hampton Roads ALA.

ELIGIBILITY:
Applicants must be the natural or legally adopted child of active-duty, inactive/active-duty reserves or retired military personnel or resale employees to grade Captain/Colonel equivalent and/or grade 12 or members of the Hampton Roads ALA who reside in the Hampton Roads area.

Applicants must be a current high school senior applying for the Fall Semester 2024 to an accredited college, university or junior college for undergraduate studies. Scholarships will not be awarded for participation in non-academic and certificate programs or attendance at a tuition-free institution, such as the U.S. Military Academy.

Applicants must be a permanent U.S. resident and be less than 21 years of age.

Applicants should be in the top 35% of their high school class and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4-point scale).

SELECTION PROCEDURES:
Following the initial screening of applications, finalists may be required to provide the following information to the Selection Committee:

    Copy of Federal W-2 for any/all person(s) providing financial support to the applicant.
    Copy of transcript
    Copy of SAT or ACT test results
    Letters of recommendation from faculty and/or community leaders

Finalists may be interviewed by the selection committee.

Completely fill out the 2024 HR ALA Scholarship Application.  Click on "Submit Form" in the upper right corner of the program to submit your application.  Electronic submission is preferred, but hard copy applications are accepted by mailing completed forms to:
